AUDITION INFORMATION
Magic… bright, beautiful, colorful, Disney magic with a healthy dose of fun! That is our aim for this production of The Little Mermaid at the Muni this summer. Everyone knows the story of Princess Ariel and her determined journey to find her perfect place out of the water with her quintessential Prince Eric. Along the way, she and her friends Flounder and Scuttle manage to challenge her guardian, Sebastian, frustrate her loving father, King Triton, and temporarily fall under the spell of her evil aunt, Ursula. In the end (it is Disney after all) everyone lives happily ever after, but on our journey we learn how misunderstandings can cause way too much heartache and unnecessary drama, and how two very separate worlds learn to live together in harmony. All it takes is a little understanding, unconditional love and …magic!

Ariel: (Appears 16-25)
A mermaid and King Triton's youngest daughter. She is obsessed with everything about the human world, and dreams of becoming a part of life above the water. Hardheaded, naive, and emotional, but also kindhearted.
Vocal Range A3-G5
Prince Eric: (Appears 20-30)
A human monarch who has no interest of taking the crown. A handsome, affable lad with a buoyant, adventurous nature. After Ariel saves his life, he becomes obsessed with finding her and hearing her voice once more.
Vocal Range B2-G4
Grimsby: (Appears 40-60)
Prince Eric's British guardian. Droll, stuffy, and constantly urging Eric towards his royal duties, specifically marriage.
Vocal Range C3-C4
Flounder: (Appears 15-20)
A fish and smitten with Ariel, his best friend. Rambunctious but cautious, fearful of the dangers that lurk in and above the water.
Vocal Range A2-G4
Scuttle: (Appears 25-40)
A disheveled seagull and expert in human artifacts. Loudmouthed, optimistic, and a bit ignorant, despite his supposed expertise.
Vocal Range C3-G4
King Triton: (Appears 35-45)
King of the Sea and Ariel's father. Beneath his imposing presence and commanding nature lurks a harried single father who will do anything to protect his daughters. The death of his wife has also given him an irrational fear of humans.

ADULT AUDITIONS
March 2, 3, 9 • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
at the Hoogland Center for the Arts
Open to those 13 years of age and up
Adult auditions take place in hour-long sessions. Vocal auditions are separate from dance auditions. Plan to check in at the registration table at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled audition time, allowing time for the vocal warm-ups before the actual audition.
The Muni provides accompanists for all vocal auditions, so please bring sheet music suitable for piano accompaniment.
Some roles require auditionees to participate in a full dance audition which will be conducted in a separate hour-long session.
Sebastian: (Appears 30-45)
A crab and advisor to King Triton. A musical virtuoso who is constantly distraught from keeping after Ariel. Despite his paranoia, he can't bring himself to stand in Ariel's way.

Flotsam: (Appears 20-40)
An eel and one of Ursula's lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear.

An eel and one of Ursula's lackeys. Oily and spineless, he will say anything you want or need to hear.

Ursula: (Appears 35-45)
The banished Sea Witch and sister of King Triton. Supposedly spurned at childhood, she will use whatever method necessary to steal the kingdom and claim it as her own. Malevolent, calculating, and deceptive.

Chef Louis: (Appears 30-50)
The French palace chef, diabolical and violent. A culinary perfectionist with an affinity for blades, seafood in particular.

SHOW SYNOPSIS
A young mermaid, Ariel, is captivated by the world that exists above the waters. During one of her trips to the surface, she sees and falls in love with a handsome prince who just happens to be human, and she is willing to defy her father’s demands to be with him. Her determination to become human results in a costly deal with a villainous sea witch that requires winning the prince’s love before time runs out.
This princess’ tale is full of excitement, a little bit of drama, great music, and very Disney happily ever after.
